Q4 2020 Performance of Top iOS Film & TV Apps in Europe

As the year 2020 closed, the Film & Television category on the iOS platform witnessed significant activity in Europe. Sensor Tower's data provides an insight into how the top 5 apps in this category performed during the fourth quarter.

Netflix, a major player in the streaming space, showed a downward trend in revenue, dropping from $2.2M to $1.65M over the quarter. However, downloads and weekly active users presented a different picture with downloads peaking at 695K during the week of December 21 and active users reaching a high of 24.7M in the last week of December.

The magic of Disney+ continued with its revenue fluctuating across the quarter, ending on a high note at $2.08M in the last week of December. Downloads saw a significant spike reaching 528K in the week leading up to Christmas, and weekly active users increased, hitting a peak of 6.35M in the penultimate week of the quarter.

Amazon Prime Video experienced a steady revenue with a slight uptick towards the end of the quarter, finishing at $416K. Downloads surged to 513K in the final week of 2020, while active users grew steadily, concluding at 4.92M.

discovery+ showed consistent revenue throughout the quarter, ending at $329K. The app's downloads reached nearly 15K by the end of December, with weekly active users maintaining above 100K, closing at 107K in the final week.

Lastly, Viaplay: Movies & TV Shows from Sweden, saw its revenue climb to $345K by the end of Q4. The app's downloads peaked at 24K just before Christmas, and the active users count rose to 295K in the last week of December.
